Julie & Jack’s winter wedding at Fishermen’s Inn in Elburn, Illinois fell on a snowy November day. I woke up knowing we’d be watching the weather and dodging flurries all day to get any outdoor portraits.
The day began with Julie’s getting ready at her parents house. Julie, being the third sister, wanted to recreate a few photos her sisters had done on their wedding day in the exact same spot years earlier. I loved helping Julie carry on that beautiful family tradition.
Watching the Winter Weather
We drove through a horrible snow storm and arrived at Fishermen’s Inn. As we waited for the groom and wedding party to arrive, we watched our phones to see what the radar was doing. It looked like we’d have a few 10 minute windows of clear skies before sunset. With such limited time for outdoor portraits, I was eager to get started.
Just as we set Jack up for the first look, flurries began falling again, faster and faster. The first look ended as a total snow-globe which made for stunning pictures. We hurried back inside to wait for another window in the weather.
Winter wedding portrait photos at Fishermen’s Inn
Finally the weather broke again and we captured all the necessary wedding party and couple photos on Fishermen’s Inn’s beautiful grounds. If you’re getting married in the winter at Fishermen’s Inn, don’t worry, there are still plenty of gorgeous views. Look for the the always green pine trees, or use the buildings as backdrops so the foliage doesn’t all look dead in your photos.
Because Julie & Jack did a first look, we had plenty of time for portraits outdoors before the sun went down. The remainder of the wedding day was spent indoors. Their ceremony overlooked the pond on the first floor, then dinner and dancing took place in the two rooms on Fishermen’s Inn’s second floor.
Thank you to the amazing staff at Fishermen’s Inn for the wonderful hospitality to the vendors. Thank you Julie & Jack for trusting us to capture your wedding day and being incredible clients!
